Something big is coming....watch this space....
PubArt, two words that you might not necessarily associate with each other, but over the years we have come to look at our pub as a space in which to enjoy your leisure time, rather than somewhere simply to drink beer. PubArt launched in March 2010 with a weeklong exhibition of work by local artists and the students of Farnham Art College. It was judged at a private viewing by Marylin Scott, director of The Lightbox in Woking, with the successful artist winning gallery space at The Globe Gallery in Weybridge. It has grown to encompass three strings; theatrical life drawing classes, a permanent exhibition wall and a series of art demos.
The life drawing kicked off with a spectacular show from visiting group Dr Sketchy who fuse lighthearted cabaret, burlesque performance and art school. A superb way for the complete novice to explore life drawing in a relaxed & non-competitive setting. They will be returning for a third time in August - watch this space. 2011 saw Jake Spicer of Brighton Life Drawing Sessions (BLDS) host a series of four theatrical classes taking inspiration from such varied themes as Alice in Wonderland and The Circus. Dynamic, fluid events, models & artists alike were encouraged to move between the sets to explore different perspectives. Jake said “People can stand or sit on the floor and draw whatever they see unfolding in front of them. I think people often feel a lot of pressure in a life drawing class to produce a nice little drawing of a nude but this isn’t about that. It’s going to be a much freer space where people can just sit and doodle if they want to”.
Up on the gallery wall, local photographer Ian Ware 'Out of the Darkroom'. The gallery wall can be booked in four week slots by sending a link to examples of your work to Kath Eleveld on e: drink@thekeystone.co.uk
Landlady Kath describes herself as a scientist but really, lurking under there, is a desire to indulge her creative side. This gives the impetus to attempt to make art more accessible to all and bring it to a wider audience that may otherwise not take the time to visit galleries or put pencil to paper.
